XI Catalan Contemporary Art Biennial 1998

The 1998 edition of the MOSTRA was one of the most successful, with fifteen cities taking part in the travelling exhibition and coinciding, moreover, with the end of the century. This edition became a showcase for the newest developments in art and was accompanied by reflections taking place in different parts of the country on the year 1898, when Spain lost its last colonies in the Philippines and Cuba.

One of the innovative aspects of the 1998 edition was the incorporation of new technologies into the dissemination of the Biennial. A catalogue was published in CD-ROM format, and the exhibition could also be accessed online through the website of the Fundació Sant Cugat. In this way, the Mostra fully embraced new technologies for worldwide dissemination.

The selection jury consisted of JOSEP Mª CADENA, art critic for the newspaper El Periódico; PERE FALCÓ, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona; GERARD SALA, visual artist and Professor of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona; and myself, director of the Mostra and member of the Guild of Art Galleries of Catalonia.
